Eat Clean to Lose Weight
If you are trying to lose weight, and are not having much success, it may be because you are not eating the right foods. All of those processed “low fat” packaged foods may be exactly why you are struggling. Processed foods contain chemicals and man-made ingredients that were created in a lab. When you eat those foods, your body doesn’t know how to digest it, so it just converts the food into fat. This creates a ‘yo-yo’ diet habit; you lose a few pounds, only to gain them back, plus some. So what is the solution to yo-yo dieting? One of the keys is to stop eating processed, packaged foods. The problem is that over 90% of products on the shelves are processed.
Have you ever noticed the layout of your local grocery store? When you walk in you are tempted with all of the fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, breads and meats. The perimeter tends to be all of the fresh foods, meats and grains. The aisles, however, are filled with your packaged, processed foods. This is the section you need to stay away from as much as possible. Instead, choose fresh vegetables, fruits and fish such as salmon, herring, cod and halibut. Your local store will also likely carry a line of organic nuts and seeds. Choose almonds, ground flaxseed, and walnuts to get your essential fatty acids. Organic nut butter is also considered a clean food.
Eating clean need not be boring; a quick search on the internet will give you dozens of sites full of recipes that contain fresh spices, herbs, fruits, vegetables and meats. If you grow your own herb garden, you can have fresh herbs at your fingertips at all times. Even better, grow your own vegetable garden as well. This will save you hundreds of dollars on your grocery bills each year.
Of course, keeping hydrated is important as well. Water can get boring, and getting your 8-10 glasses in can be difficult. Invest in a large water bottle and experiment with different fruits: throw in some lemon, lime or strawberries. Drink some water with lemon first thing in the morning to kick start your metabolism into high gear.
Eating clean is only one part of your successful weight loss journey. You also need to include exercise and strength training into your routine. Strength, or resistance, training will help you tone and define your muscles; this will increase your metabolism ten-fold.
Once you have lost your desired weight, you will probably notice health improvements such as lower cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and be at a lower risk for obesity-related disease like diabetes. You will be able to update your life insurance policy and possibly take critical illness insurance out of the equation, and get a reduced rate based on your good health, no matter what your age. Most people forget to update their policies when they get healthy, but it is an important part of your health insurance. Remember that medical exam you took when your policy began? Your rate was based on the results from that initial exam. When you are at your ideal weight, with no health issues, you can get a reduced rate.
